OKIDATA OKIFAX 5780 DRUM

The drum unit installed in your OKIDATA OKIFAX 5780 is a consumable component, which must be replaced after a certain maximal number of prints. Therefore, this important consumable component is constantly monitored by the precise built-in system of your fax machine. Once the system detects that the printing resource of the installed drum unit is nearly consumed, you will see the following warning message ''CHANGE DRUM'' displayed on the control LCD. You should replace the exhausted drum unit soon after the initial appearance of the warning message, in order to be avoided a variety of print quality issues. You should also replace the installed drum unit, if you have correctly re-installed the drum unit, but the following error message ''INVALID DRUM CART. REFER TO USER GUIDE'' is still displayed on the control LCD. You could easily check the remaining print resource of the drum unit installed in your laser fax machine by performing the short procedure included below.

Checking the remaining print resource of the installed drum unit

1. Enter the [COUNTERS] menu by pressing [MENU/EXIT].
2. Navigate to and select [COUNTER] by pressing [ENTER].
3. Select [DRUM COUNTER] by pressing [^] several times.
4. Press [Enter] – The remaining print resource of the drum unit will be displayed in %.
5. Press [Menu/Exit] to switch your printer back to ''stand-by'' mode.

Please note that should install a new toner cartridge, when you are replacing the drum unit.

You must start the drum unit replacement procedure by turning off your OKIDATA OKIFAX 5780, and then open the document tray. After that, you must lift the stacker up, and then remove the exhausted drum unit along with the attached toner cartridge from the fax machine by pulling the assembly upwards. Now, you must unpack the new drum unit, and then insert it into the fax machine until it locks into place. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must remove the old ''toner well cover'', and then shake the new toner cartridge 10 times from side to side. Once the new toner cartridge is prepared, you must insert it into the fax machine (insert its right side first), and then lock the cartridge into place by pushing its gray lock release lever towards the rear side of the fax machine. After that, you must close the stacker and the document tray, and then turn your laser fax machine back ON. Finally, you must reset the counter of the drum unit by performing the procedure included below.

Drum Counter Reset

1. Press [Menu/Exit], and then navigate to [Counter] by pressing [^] several times.
2. Press [Enter] twice, and then press [Clear] twice.
3. You must finalize the drum counter reset procedure by pressing [Menu/Exit].
