RICOH AFICIO 1018 DRUM

The photoconductive drum installed in your Ricoh Aficio 1018 Laser Printer is an important consumable component, which has a print resource enough for approx. 60000 pages at 5% coverage (5% toner/95%white space). The lifespan of the drum is defined by various factors, such as the type of used paper, the chosen print settings, the average number of printed pages per print task, the percentage of page coverage/the complexity of the printed documents, the overall technical condition of your laser printer, the environmental factors (temperature, humidity), etc… The work condition of this important consumable component is directly defining the overall print quality results achieved by your Ricoh Aficio 1018 Laser Printer. Therefore, you must install a new drum unit, if any of the following print quality issues is constantly appearing on the printed documents: background fogging, blurred images, blank copies, solid copies, black/white dots, white banding, and/or black banding. Please follow the instructions given below to replace the exhausted drum unit.

The installation of a new drum in your Ricoh Aficio 1018 Laser Printer includes the removal of the toner cartridge holder and the drum unit. Therefore, you must start the replacement procedure by opening the front cover, and then remove the toner cartridge holder along with the installed cartridge by pulling it out of the slot while pushing down the lock lever, which is located next to the installed/inserted holder. After that, you must open the right cover of your Ricoh Aficio 1018 Laser Printer, and then remove the drum unit by pulling it towards you while pressing its lock release lever. Now, you must remove the front and the rear side pieces from the drum unit by detaching their screws and the coupling. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must separate both sections of the drum unit – the drum section and the developer section, and then remove the drum retaining clip by pulling it out of the left side of the drum section. Once the retaining clip is removed, you must detach the front side of the exhausted drum from the drum section, and then detach the rear side of the exhausted component. At this stage of the installation, you must unpack the new drum, and then insert it into the drum section of the drum unit. After that, you must return all of the previously removed components/parts to their original places by following the current procedure in reverse order, and then finalize the installation by executing the maintenance procedure included below.

1. Turn on your laser printer.
2. Print at least five test pages, and check the print quality.
3. Proceed with the following steps, only if the print quality is poor.
4. Uninstall the drum unit.
5. Tap on its top side 8-10 times.
6. Reinstall the drum unit.
7. Turn ON the printer.
8. Open and close the front cover.
9. Wait 10 seconds.
10. Repeat the previous two steps 2 times.
11. Print 5 solid black pages.
