Samsung ML-2525W Review

Overview:

Not only is the Samsung ML-2525W a shockingly affordable personal laser printer on its own, the inclusion of full wireless connectability easily places the unit head and shoulders above many of its competitors in the desktop laser printer category; its only specification that is lacking being its raw print speed.

Pros:

Easily the most outstanding feature of the Samsung ML-2525W is its ability to execute true one touch printing. By way of a dedicated Print Screen button, users can print data with one press. The button is located on the device’s control panel and, when pressed, almost instantly prints the screen of the current host PC. Additionally, users have the option of holding the button down for two seconds which activates the print active window function, allowing users to isolate whatever data they are currently working on and print it incredibly quickly. The unit’s 9 second to first page out time also ensures that the time from digital data to hard output remains minimal.

Unlike the Samsung ML-2525W’s sister unit, the Samsung ML-2525, the device comes equipped with wireless connectability. With wireless possibilities, connecting the printer to a host PC or network becomes incredibly fast and easy, and also results in a very clean look due to the absence of unseemly USB cables.

Paper handling for the Samsung ML-2525W is fairly standard and, even though the unit is very compact, it comes complete with a full sized paper drawer. Its standard paper storage capacity is 250 sheets, though the unit’s multipurpose bypass slot allows users to insert various types of media without using the storage chamber. Various special media types supported by the unit include envelopes, transparencies, and card stock, among others.

The device also includes a piece of software called AnyWeb that allows users to create unique, printable data quickly and easily from web sources. Users start with a blank on screen page and then drag and drop various elements from their web browser into the empty space with no resizing or cropping required. These files can then be printed directly and/or stored digitally in tiff or pdf formats for future use.

Cons:

While the Samsung ML-2525W’s wireless capabilities give it a significant advantage over other printers in its price range, it does, unfortunately, lack the sheer printing power found in other laser and inkjet printers around this price. With a top print speed of 24 pages per minute for A4 or letter sized paper, the unit does benefit from a significant increase in performance over its lower end sister models, the ML-1910 and ML-1915, but still leaves something to be lacking.
