AL-2050CS DRUM

A counter in the Sharp AL-2050CS keeps track of copies that are made and will alert the user with an A DRUM CARTRIDGE WILL BE NEEDED SOON message when 17,000 copies have been produced by a single drum cartridge. At this point, a new drum cartridge should be ordered because the unit will shut itself down when the drum reaches 18,000 copies.

To install a new drum cartridge, begin as you would when replacing a toner cartridge. Open the side and front covers and remove the toner cartridge as detailed in the toner replacement procedure. The drum cartridge does not have a locking latch and can simply be pulled out of the machine. It is best to recycle used drum cartridges through an accredited toner cartridge recycling program.

The new drum cartridge must have its protective cover pulled off before it can be slid into the copy machine. Be careful to only hold the drum unit by its handle whenever possible. With the drum unit in place, the toner cartridge can be reinserted and locked into position.

Once drum and toner are properly secured, it is safe to close the front cover and side cover, at which point the warning messages will go away and the copy machine will regain full functionality.
