The Canon imagePROGRAF iPF605 is specifically designed for professionals. Users of CAD (Computer-Aided Design), GIS (Geographic Information Systems), and AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) software compatible programs will want to take a look at this large format color printer, as Canon is known for their outstanding performance to price ratio when it comes to heavy duty printers such as this.

Pros:

While the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF605 is entirely capable of producing professional level results from architectural and geographic software, it also stands out as an excellent art and design tool thanks to its ability to produce extremely finely detailed color imagery. With a nozzle pitch of 1,200 dots per inch and a print resolution of 2,400 x 1,200 dots per inch max, the unit can produce photo quality graphics on a large scale. It is also fully capable of extremely accurate printing due to its extraordinarily small 4 pcl droplet size.

The Canon imagePROGRAF iPF605 in particular is a variation on the Canon imagePROGRAF series that does not include a cassette tray. This minimizes the unit’s footprint and makes it more prone towards a smaller office setup and, without a stand, makes it a desktop model, though Canon’s large format stand is available separately.

Canon makes the extra effort for customer satisfaction by including, on top of its standard software and driver package, its Poster Artist Lite poster creation software that is an excellent free tool for tailor making large posters and banners that can truly take advantage of the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF605’s powerful hardware.

The unit, though not cassette ready, can be fed through the top or the front, and is also compatible with very large paper rolls; up to 59 feet. When utilizing a paper roll, not only are long banners a printing option, but borderless printing as well. When borderless printing is in effect, the need for users to cut and trim away blank space by hand is eliminated, which is a chore required by lower end units.

Other included features include a Free Layout option for host based nesting and Real Preview for real time viewing that allows users to modify setting at the last second.

Cons:

As is true with any full color large format printer, the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF605’s drawbacks are its size and cost. The expense of the unit, as well as that of its consumables, makes it an unwise buy for any small business that does not absolutely require very frequent oversized color printing.  Its immense size and weight also make in impractical for a smaller setup, even when functioning as a desktop device.
