Canon imagePROGRAF iPF655 Review
The 24 inch Canon imagePROGRAF iPF655 large format printer is part of Canon’s comprehensive line of drafting/ design oriented printers that bring professional level quality and size to the small business. Though the imagePROGRAF iPF655 is very costly (twice as expensive as Canon’s 17” printers), it produces almost unparalleled material when dealing with posters and line drawings.
For such a large printer, the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF655 offers a lot of versatility. It was engineered for both speed and advanced image production, giving users quality output without the wait and, though the unit has a rather large footprint, especially when the unit’s stand is incorporated, its design is spatially efficient. The device, however expensive, does include a wide range of supplemental hardware not found in more affordable units such as a built in 80 GB hard drive. With a built in hard disk, the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF655 itself relieves some of the workload placed on a host PC and thereby speeds up processing and print times. It is also useful for job data storage and retrieval and permanent on board hosting of frequently used material. The unit is capable of job accounting and also supports gigabit Ethernet. It is compatible with a variety of formats including Geographical Information System (GIS), Computer-Aided Design (CAD), and Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC). Features such as a reactive ink system and precision printing keep output looking flawless and accurate, while Canon’s PF-04 print head features a nozzle shape that reduces satellite ink for even clearer lines and text. With a total of 15,360 print nozzles and a droplet size of only 4 picoleters, detail and image quality are extremely sharp, regardless of output needs. A built in L-COA processor is ideal for high speed output and allows the device a print speed of about 28 seconds when print a 24 in x 36 in drawing. The unit also operates and impressive resolution, with a maximum of 2400 x 1200 dots per inch attainable for any size imagery. A built in HDI driver is capable of creating a vector graphical representation of printed data; defining individual points, lines, and curves mathematically in order to achieve the maximum graphical accuracy.
As mentioned earlier, the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF655 is a very costly unit. Limited by its high price tag, buyers of the device should strongly consider the investment before purchase. Overhead costs on a large format printer, including specialty paper and ink cartridges, are also often very high. |
