The lifespan of the toner cartridge installed in your HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn Printer is approx. 2100 prints at 5% page coverage. You can check the estimated percentage of remaining toner in the installed cartridge by printing a supplies status page. Please note that you have to select ‘’Supply Status Page’’ from the ‘’Print Information Pages’’ menu, in order to print a supplies status page. The installed toner cartridge needs to be replaced, if the percentage of remaining toner is less than 10%, in order to be avoided various print quality issues.

Please note that you can decrease the toner consumption, and resp. the cost per page, by selecting the ‘’HP EconoMode’’. However, the print quality will be noticeably lower when this toner saving mode is selected. The ‘’HP EconoMode’’ can be selected from the ‘’Paper/Quality’’ tab.

The HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn Printer features a toner cartridge indicator, which is located on the control panel, next to the [Warning] LED. The toner cartridge indicator illustrates six black dots in a pyramidal order. You should install a new toner cartridge in your LaserJet printer, if:

• The [Ready] LED and the toner indicator are on – The installed toner cartridge is near the end of its useful life, and the remaining toner will be completely consumed very soon, which will lead to a non-operational mode. Therefore, you should purchase a new toner cartridge and install it soon after the initial appearance of the ‘’toner low’’ light pattern. Please follow the instruction given further below to install the new toner cartridge in your HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn Printer.

• The toner indicator is blinking – The most common cause of this error state is an incorrect installation of the toner cartridge. Herein, you must make sure that the toner cartridge is correctly installed into the laser printer (Please refer to ‘’How to Install a Toner Cartridge in the HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn Printer’’). The problematic toner cartridge must be replaced, if the printer is still in a non-operational/error mode after the correct reinstallation.

• The print quality is poor/unsatisfactory, and/or one of the listed print quality issues is reappearing: light prints, toner specks, dropouts, vertical lines, gray background, toner smear, or vertical repetitive defects.

In order to install a new toner cartridge in your HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn Printer, you must open the top cover (print-cartridge door), and then remove the used toner cartridge by carefully pulling it out of the main compartment. After that, you must take the new toner cartridge out of the protective cardboard box, and then remove the tape that is protecting the shutter of the new component by pulling the blue plastic tab out. At this point, you must redistribute the toner by shaking the new cartridge several times from side to side. In the final step of the replacement procedure, you must insert the new toner cartridge firmly into the main compartment, and then close the top cover (print-cartridge door) of your HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn Printer.
