Overview:

Build for customizability, the Toshiba E Studio 350 cannot reach its full potential without the inclusion of some of its many hardware add ons. While the device’s 35 page per minute print speed is merely satisfactory, the device’s large array of finishers, paper trays, and other attachments mean that any buyer could customize this copy machine to suit their needs perfectly.

Pros:

128 MBs of memory are included as a standard feature of the Toshiba E Studio 350, but it is its 40 GB hard disk that really impresses. With a built in hard drive, users can create their own digital folders that can be accessed directly from the machine by using its very large touch screen. Page data can be stored in these folders and printed or e mailed at the touch of a few buttons, without ever having to access a host PC.

As a copy machine, the Toshiba E Studio 350 truly excels in pretty much every way. The unit can pump out a first copy page in less than 4 seconds and, from complete shut off, its warm up time is only 30 seconds. Up to 120,000 copies per month can be made with the machine as well, which means it can be put under almost constant abuse without incident. In a single pass, the unit can put out up to 999 copies at once, which is more than most people will ever need.

The unit is also equipped with a small variety of basic copy functions that include reduction and enlargement in ratios of 25 – 400%. Along with printing and copying, the Toshiba E Studio 350 is also a more than competent scanner and fax machine. As expected, it is equipped with a Super G3 33.6 Kbps fax modem that can transmit a page in about 3 seconds.

With the help of the built in automatic document feeder, the printer can actually scan pages into its fax memory faster than it can actually send it over the phone lines. Each page can be scanned at a rate of about .7 seconds per, or 50 scans per minute. The data is then sent via the modem while the scan hardware is freed up for other uses.

The Toshiba E Studio 350’s e-filing system is made possible with the help of the touch screen, though e-filing can also be done by way of a host PC. Up to 200 private user boxes can be created on the unit’s hard drive, as well as a single public box for joint usage.

Cons:

The Toshiba E Studio 350’s 35 page per minute print and copy speed is not completely unacceptable, but is definitely a disappointment in a world where 45 page per minute and up mid sized machines kind of run the show.
