Putting out up to 45 pages per minute in high monochrome resolution, the Toshiba E Studio 453 multifunctional device is suitable to handle the document handling needs of an entire small office. This fully customizable mid sized copy machine gives users a low cost per page and complete control over their hardware, making the device as versatile and practical as it is powerful.

Pros:

With a print speed of 45 pages per minute, the Toshiba E Studio 453 far outperforms its desktop, lower end counterparts. While this speed is not exactly unbeatable, it is still very competitive against what is currently on the market. Users who do not require such intense print speeds can even save themselves a little coin by going with the Toshiba E Studio 353 model variation that puts out 35 pages per minute and costs considerably less up front.

Copy and print resolutions are both adjustable up to 2400 x 600 dots per inch. While a true 1200 x 1200 dot per inch print quality is always preferable to an uneven one, the Toshiba E Studio 453 is still perfectly capable of executing a very impressive monochrome image print or reproduction.

The unit takes about 20 seconds to warm up, which is about half the time of many of its competitors. Furthermore, the device’s first copy time of 3.9 seconds really is tough to beat. Copies and prints can also be done in very large quantities without worry due to the printer’s 150,000 page maximum monthly duty cycle that allows the machine to be under constant use.

Standard memory totals only 256 MBs, but this can be doubled to 512 MBs. The unit’s page memory consists of a separate 32 MBs but when an additional hard disk is added, the Toshiba E Studio 453 can hold up to 40 GBs of page data that can originate from incoming faxes or scans. Data stored in the hard drive can be kept there indefinitely in individual mailboxes and printed at any given time without ever accessing a host PC.

Along with printing, copying, and scanning, the Toshiba E Studio 453 is capable of sending and receiving faxes with the help of its built in Super G3 33.6 Kbps fax modem. Faxes are transmitted with the device at a rate of about 3 seconds per page and PC faxing is optional as well over a network or through a single USB connection.

Cons:

The only thing that the Toshiba E Studio 453 has going against it is its age. While this in itself is not technically necessarily a problem, the fact that the unit is not equipped with all the latest gadgets like the printers currently on the shelves is a deterrent for some buyers. The unit cannot print in color, nor is it equipped with a color touch screen for previewing print material. Its internet integration is minimal whereas brand new devices are capable of seamlessly taking advantage of online data transferring. Basically, the Toshiba E Studio 453 is a good choice if having the latest and greatest is not a priority.
