Product Description
Xerox Phaser 3124 - Toner Cartridge

This toner cartridge prints 2000 pages with average 5% coverage (Nearly all Printer manufacturers base their ink/toner cartridge yields on 5% page coverage).

This product comes with a 6 month Warranty against any defects (including free replacement). We stand behind our products 100%, as these are not manufactured by Xerox.

Why toner? Why not call it ink? Regular ink dries quickly, which is why cartridges for inkjet printers do not last long. Laser Printers use toner, which is ink in the form of powder. A sealed toner cartridge can be stored for 2+ years prior to usage.

Product Manuals
Xerox Phaser 3124 Toner Cartridge Maintenance

There are several ways to ensure that the maximum utility is gained from each toner cartridge. Users can begin maximizing the life of a cartridge before it is installed in the printer by not opening the packaging of a new cartridge until right before installing it. This ensures that air does not needlessly get to the toner and dry it out.

Do not refill toner cartridges as this will void most printer warranties but instead recycle used cartridges through a credited recycling program. Never throw toner cartridges in the garbage or burn them.

When storing toner cartridges, be sure that they are kept at a reasonable temperature, preferably in the same environment that the printer is in. Keep toner cartridges in dark places, especially avoiding direct sunlight.

It is possible that, when a toner cartridge is running low and performing poorly, a simply redistribution of toner can remedy the problem temporarily. When white streaks or otherwise poor printing begin to occur or the ERROR LED starts blinking red, open the front cover of the Xerox Phaser 3124 and pull the toner cartridge out. Shake the cartridge back and forth several times, being careful no to touch its contact points, and reinsert it into the machine. When problems arise again, replace the cartridge with a new one.

Xerox Phaser 3124 Loading Paper and Other Print Media

The Xerox Phaser 3124 accepts multiple types of input material. The standard paper tray accepts pages with thicknesses ranging from 16 to 43 lbs, though only paper that is between 20 and 24 lbs is compatible with the device’s manual duplex function. Plain paper, envelopes, transparencies, and labels are all compatible with the printer. If paper or other print material that does not meet the guidelines for the unit is used, poor print quality may occur as well as much more frequent paper jams.

The Xerox Phaser 3124’s standard paper tray is capable of holding up to 250 sheets of paper (20 lb). When loading paper, first bend the stack to be inputted back and forth to ensure that no two pieces are sticking to each other. Load the paper with the desired side to be printed on facing UP, this includes letterhead paper.

When using the manual feed tray, special media type can be used. To begin, open the manual feed door and insert a SINGLE sheet of paper or media with the side to be printed on facing UP. Special media should be loaded as follows:

• Envelopes are loaded flap side DOWN with the stamp area on the TOP LEFT
• Transparencies are to have the adhesive strip enter the printer FIRST.
• Labels are inserted print side up with the top short edge FIRST.
• Letterhead or other preprinted paper should have the design side UP with the top of the page FIRST.
• To reuse paper that has already been printed on, place the already printed side DOWN.

When loading transparencies, touch the print surface as little as possible to avoid making fingerprints. Before activating a print, adjust the guides on the sides of the manual feed tray to fit against the sides of the print material. The paper type must be selected in the print properties when printing to special media.

When using the manual tray, be sure to always load SINGLE sheets of paper at one time and wait until one piece of paper is fully processed before adding another one. Selecting MANUAL FEEDER under the SOURCE options, found under the PAPER tab, will activate the manual feeder.

Xerox Phaser 3124 Review

Overview:

The Xerox Phaser 3124 is a bare bones laser printing solution that, though a little larger than its competitors, certainly gets the job done when it comes to basic, efficient black and white print needs. The unit, though now discontinued, is still readily available online and could be a cost effective choice for those looking to purchase a mid grade personal laser printer.

Pros:

The Xerox Phaser 3124’s first page out time of 9 seconds makes it at least a competitive in the category, and its maximum print speed of 25 pages per minute, while not top of the line, is sufficient for many users’ print needs. Interestingly, the printer comes with very conservative processing and memory hardware components. A 150 MHz processor and 8 MBs of built in RAM somehow do the trick for this affordable work horse.

With image quality topping out at a solid 1200 x 600 dots per inch, text documents will have that extra crisp, professional look and imagery will at least look decent. The unit holds up to 250 sheets of paper (251 if you include the manual feed slot) which should prove to be plenty of storage for a single user. The device’s maximum monthly duty cycle is also sufficient, if not impressive at 20,000 pages, though Xerox recommends printing much less per month to obtain the maximum lifespan of the hardware.

Though the Xerox Phaser 3124 laser printer is an extremely simplistic unit, it is not without some attractive features. Xerox has gone out of their way to make the printer extremely easy to install, claiming that, “Only four clicks of the mouse gets you started.” Warm up time for the unit is also very speedy and clocks in at less than 15 seconds. A warm up time this fast is ideal for those who will not have the device under a constant workload and will therefore often be relying on its power saver option.

Other features include watermark printing that makes it possible to print text or imagery in the “background” of primary print material and poster printer that makes it easy to blow up a single page to an image that spans nine pages. Lastly, the Xerox Phaser 3124 laser printer is equipped with a job cancel feature that makes it fast and easy to cancel a current print operation, potentially saving paper and toner.

Cons:

The Xerox Phaser 3124 laser printer is quite large. Its dimensions of 14.1 x 11.7 x 10 in (W x D x H) place it on the heftier side when it comes to printers without color or multifunctional capabilities. The device is certainly past its prime and, though still relevant for smaller operations, can no longer keep up with the speed of the current print standards.

Xerox currently offers the Xerox Phaser 3124 laser printer as a pre owned model, but the current price of this device, pre owned or not, is not congruent with its performance specifications and for a few dollars more, users can do significantly better than this unit.
