How to Install a Drum (Imaging Unit) in the Samsung CLP-300 Laser Printer

To install a new drum in your Samsung CLP-300 Laser Printer, you must turn off the laser printer, wait 5-6 minutes for the internal components to cool, and then open the front cover. After that, you must take all toner cartridges and the waste toner container out of the main compartment, and then remove the used drum by pulling it slowly towards you. Now, you must take the new drum out of the plastic bag, and then remove the shipping locks and the protective cover from the new component. Once the new drum is prepared, you must slide it into the laser printer until it clicks into place, and then remove the dummy caps from the toner cartridge slots. In the concluding step of the replacement procedure, you must reinstall the toner cartridges and the waste toner container, and then close the front cover of your Samsung CLP-300 Laser Printer firmly.

How to Install a Waste Toner Container in the Samsung CLP-300 Laser Printer

Important: Please turn the laser printer off, and wait 5-6 minutes before proceeding with the replacement of the waste toner container.

When do I Replace a Toner Cartridge in the Samsung CLP-300 Laser Printer?

The Samsung CLP-300 Laser Printer uses a certain amount of toner for each print job. The four toner-cartridges (Yellow, Cyan, Magenta, and Black) that are installed in the laser printer contain the toner. The toner cartridges are consumable components. For that reason, your Samsung CLP-300 Laser Printer is equipped with several toner cartridge LEDs, which indicate the status of the installed cartridges. The toner cartridge LEDs will be lit in a certain pattern when a toner cartridge related abnormality occurs. Please replace the specified toner cartridges if any of the listed and explained light patterns appears on the control panel of your laser printer.

The [Status] LED lights green and each of the four [Toner] LEDs blinks red – The components of the installed toner cartridges are near the end of their useful life. You must install a new toner cartridge set soon after the initial appearance of this light pattern on the control panel.

The [Status] LED blinks red and each of the four [Toner] LEDs lights red – All installed toner cartridges are nearly empty. The print quality cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, you should install a new toner cartridge set.

The [Status], [Yellow Toner], [Cyan Toner], [Magenta Toner], and [Black Toner] LEDs are lit in red – This is an indication for an exhausted toner cartridge set. Printing will not continue until a new toner cartridge set is installed.

The green [Status] LED is on and one of the red [Toner] LEDs is blinking – The remaining toner in the indicated toner cartridge is less than 10%. You should install a new toner cartridge of the specified color soon.

The red [Status] LED flashes and one of the red [Toner] LEDs is on – Your Samsung CLP-300 Laser Printer has detected a low toner level. Please install a new toner cartridge of the indicated color.

The red [Status] LED and one of the red [Toner] LEDs are on – You must make sure that the indicated toner cartridge is installed correctly. The specified toner cartridge must be replaced with a new one if the problem persists.

In some cases, you must replace the installed toner cartridges even if the [Toner] LEDs are off. For example, a new toner cartridge set must be installed if the print quality is unsatisfactory, and any of the following print-quality issues appears: light printouts, dropouts, background shading, vertical repetitive defects, solid color printouts, solid black printouts, loose toner, or horizontal stripes.

Overview:

The Samsung CLP-300 is well designed and affordable. The CLP-300 version (nonnetworked) costs only $250, while the networked version (CLP-300N) will set you back an additional $100. However it is slow and doesn’t offer a lot of features.

Pros:

The Samsung CLP-300 weights only 30 pounds and is easy to transport. Its overall footprint is about as compact as you'll find among laser printers.
The Samsung CLP-300 comes with a 300MHz processor, but the CLP-300 features only 32MB of memory to the CLP-300N's 64MB. With the CLP-300 you only get a USB 2.0 connection, while the CLP-300N also throws in a 10/100 Ethernet connector for networked printing.
You may not get the fastest print speeds with the Samsung CLP-300, however it does produce 13 pages a minute which is outstanding for a printer in its price range. Print quality is above average. Text prints are crisp and clear. When printing images you won’t see any dithering or smudging.

Cons:

Users don’t get much in the way of paper handling with the Samsung CLP-300. It only comes with a single 150-sheet paper tray that pulls out from the front and can hold a variety of paper sizes. Users who want to feed single sheets can flip open the plastic cover at the front of the tray and insert pages one at a time. The well in the top of the printer serves as the output tray, and a flap folds out to corral long sheets.
The control panel is very limited and only offers a cancel button and four color LEDs that let you know when toner levels are getting low.
