Copystar CS-2050 Review

Overview:

Many businesses will have there different needs, a small business will only need a copier with limited features, whereas a more advanced company will need a faster, feature packed copier capable of making there work environment easier. For a more advanced business, I would recommend the Copystar CS-2050. This copier, although quite expensive, has some fantastic features.

Pros:

The CS-2050, which is one of the newer additions to the Copystar range, is primarily a desktop digital multifunctional copier. It is capable of producing 30,000 pages per month, and up to 20 pages per month (20 letter, 11 legal and 10 ledger). It contains a standard 300 x 2 sheet paper drawer meaning you can use it for a long time without the need to refill it after every use. It also has a 50 sheet multi purpose tray. Weighing around 120 lbs, it’s not something you would want to carry around to different offices. It is however quite small and compact, measuring 22.6" in width x 23.3" in depth and 23.9" in height. This makes it pretty perfect in using in your desktop workspace, whether it’s in your office or at home.

The resolution the copier can produce is excellent. It can copy the expected 600 x 600 dpi and can print out at 1200 x 600 dpi. This makes the quality of the documents or images printed an excellent quality, giving logos and such a better and more professional look. However, with high quality comes a high price and you should see whether you need this quality before spending more than you need to.

Another fantastic feature the Copystar CS-2050 has is the ability to connect to a network. The printer can send faxes, which is an added bonus if you are looking for this functionality. This however doesn't come as standard and requires the fax upgrade to be installed. It has an approximate transmittion speed of around 2 seconds per page (so around 30 pages per minute). The copier is also able to be upgraded in a number of other areas. You can add duplex, paper handling or internal stapler finisher.

The copier comes with a standard 64MB of RAM, which is a lot when you compare it to previous versions. This is also upgradable up to 256MB of RAM. This allows a scan once print many function, which is popular on a lot of Copystar products. It can continuously copy up to 999 documents. It is also possible to change the imaging mode to text or photo as well as other, although can just be left as auto.

The scanning system that is with this copier can scan up to 20 sheets per minute, in a resolution up to and including 600 dpi (it can do 200, 300, 400 dpi as well). It can scan the image to your computer or to email, which helps you when working in a fast environment. It is compatible with almost every operating system such as Windows, Mac and Unix support. 

Cons:

However, with high quality comes a high price. At over $1500 this really is a digital copier that is best suited to larger companies, or for people with the higher needs it can produce. You should look into what you are looking for from the copier before making a rash decision and spending your entire budget in one go. There is though an option to get this printer cheaper if you haven’t got the budget, and you could lease it out instead.


This copier is an amazing product from Copystar. They have designed something not only convenient for a small office, but something that is powerful. It can produce high quality images and documents and has the added functionality of fax and network support. Although the high price may put you off, if something like the Copystar CS-2050 is needed in your place of work, then leasing it is always an option. The ability to upgrade the copier is another fantastic addition, as you can add to the copier if and when you need it.
