AL-1641CS OPC DRUM

Upon setup of the Sharp AL-1641CS copy machine, a drum cartridge will have to be installed. This cartridge must be replaced regularly on an 18,000 copy cycle. The unit will warn users when the cartridge is about 1,000 copies away from needing to be replaced by lighting a drum indicator light. At this point, it is a good idea to order a new cartridge and replace the drum once the indicator light starts to blink.

In order to replace the drum unit for this machine, the toner cartridge must be removed first. To remove the toner cartridge, begin by opening the multi purpose bypass tray if it is not already open. Open the side cover by pressing the OPEN button, then drop the front cover open by pressing in on its sides.

Behind the front cover, the toner cartridge and drum unit will be seen. To remove the toner cartridge, press the button on the end of it to release it from the copy machine and pull it straight out of the unit. Keep it out of sunlight while the drum unit is being replaced.

Once the toner cartridge has been safely removed, the drum unit can be pulled out of the machine by its handle. Old drum cartridges can and should be recycled properly. To install a new drum cartridge, the protective cover on the cartridge must first be removed, then the cartridge can be slid into the machine where the old one sat before.

Reinstall the toner cartridge by sliding it into place next to the drum and pressing the release button until it is pushed all the way in. With both toner and drum securely in place, close the front cover first. Close the side cover by pressing on the finger pad next to the OPEN latch, making sure that it closes entirely. Any indicator lights should now go off and the machine should become operational again.
