This Toner Cartridge has an extended capacity (high yield) and prints 6000 pages with an average 5% page coverage. The amount of pages can vary depending upon the amount of ink printed onto each page. (5% is a standard Brother spec)

When do I Replace a Toner Cartridge in the Brother HL-1230 Printer

How to Install a Toner Cartridge in the Brother HL-1230 Printer

In the first step of the replacement procedure, you must open the front cover of your Brother HL-1230 Printer, and then pull the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly towards you to remove it from the main compartment. After that, you must disengage the lock mechanism by pressing the lever down, and then remove the exhausted toner cartridge from the drum unit. Now, you must remove the packing material from the new toner cartridge, and then shake the cartridge several times from side to side. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must remove the protective cover from the new toner cartridge, and then insert it into the drum unit until it locks into place. Once the new toner cartridge is inserted, you must clean the primary corona wire of the drum unit, and then insert the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly into the Brother HL-1230 Printer. Finally, you must close the front cover of the printer.

Overview:

The Brother HL-1230 is a monochrome laser printer that is affordable. It is compact, but doesn’t sacrifice quality. Text is of professional quality and easily readable at smaller fonts.

Pros:

This unit features a basic design and is compact, which will allow it to fit into tight spaces. It only weights 25 pounds and is easy to move when necessary. The Brother HL-1230 lacks a USB port. However there are adapters that will allow you to use a USB cable with this machine. An Ethernet port can be added that will allow you to connect the printer directly to your network.

Toner cartridges for the Brother HL-1230 are affordable. Brother HL-1230 toner cartridges have a capacity of 3,000 pages for the standard version. High yield cartridges are available that allow you to print 6,000 pages. They will reduce printing cost.

Output quality is above average. Text is sharp. There are no signs of feathering or smudging. Grayscale images are well detailed with well defined lines. The Brother HL-1230 delivers print speeds up to 12 pages per minute, and first page out time is less than 15 seconds.

Cons:

The Brother HL-1230 lacks power. It only features a 66 MHz processor and only 2 MB of RAM. This unit also lacks the ability to print in color.
