Your Brother MFC-8600 Multifunction Printer is equipped with a highly sophisticated built-in system, which is using the printer sensors and counters to monitor the status of all installed consumable components. The installed drum unit is also a consumable, and because of that fact, its status/condition is also monitored by the system. Therefore, you will see the following warning message ''CHANGE DRUM SOON'', when the installed drum unit needs to be replaced. You should follow the instructions given by the built-in system and replace the exhausted component soon after the initial warning. Otherwise, you will inevitably experience a variety of print quality issues, which will negatively affect your work. Please also note that the toner consumption is usually higher, when the drum unit is exhausted, which leads to a faster exhaustion of the installed toner cartridge. You should perform the procedure included below, in order to install a new drum unit in your MFC-8600.

Initially, you must open the front printer cover, and then take the exhausted drum unit out of the machine by grabbing its front side and pulling straight towards you. After that, you must grab the toner cartridge and gently pull it towards you while pressing the lock lever on the right side of the drum unit, in order to separate the still usable toner cartridge from the exhausted drum unit, and then unpack the new drum unit. Please note that you must avoid touching the sensitive surface of the photoconductive drum (on the top side of the new drum unit) and the contact area of the toner cartridge. Now, you must insert the toner cartridge into the new drum unit until you hear a click, and then insert the assembled components (toner cartridge+new drum unit) into the printer. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must reset the drum counter by pressing the [Clear] button until the following message ''Replace Drum? 1.Yes 2.No'' appears on the LCD, and then press the [1] button. Once the following message ''ACCEPTED'' appears on the LCD, you must close the front cover and test your Brother MFC-8600 Multifunction Printer.
