BROTHER MFC-8690DW DRUM

The drum unit installed in your Brother MFC-8690DW Multifunction Printer is a consumable printer component, which has a certain limited print resource. Because of that fact, this component must be replaced after a certain maximal number of prints, which is defined by various factors, such as the average percentage of page coverage, the used printer settings, the average daily load (number of new prints per day), etc... Otherwise, the print quality will be gradually decreasing, and eventually the printing of new documents won't be possible due to a variety of print quality issues. The second sign for an exhausted drum unit in your MFC-8690DW includes the following message ''Drum Error'' reappearing on the control LCD, even after a corona wire cleaning. You could easily install a new drum unit in your printer by simply following the instructions included below. Please note that there are no special tools or technical skills required for the successful execution of the drum unit replacement procedure.

Initially, you must open the front printer cover by pulling it towards you while pressing its lock release button. After that, you must take the exhausted drum unit out of the printer by grabbing its front side and pulling towards you, but be aware that some of the other printer components will be very hot. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must detach the still useable toner cartridge from the exhausted drum unit by pushing the blue lock lever down and pulling the cartridge towards you. Please note that the contact area of the toner cartridge and the sensitive surface of the drum (on the top side of the new drum unit) must not be touched, in order to be avoided future print quality problems. Now, you must take the new drum unit out of the protective packaging, and then insert the toner cartridge into the unpacked new printer component until you hear that it clicks into place. Once the toner cartridge is securely attached, you must insert the new drum unit into the printer, and then press the [Clear/Back] button until the following message ''Replace Drum'' appears on the control LCD. Then, you must confirm the installation of a new drum unit by pressing [1]. In the final step of the replacement procedure, you must close the front cover of your Brother MFC-8690DW Multifunction Printer, and then you will be able to proceed with your next task/project.
