Royal Copystar RI-3530 Review

Overview:

There is always need for a copier in an office and the Royal Copystar RI-3530 could be the perfect choice. Featuring fast copy speeds and its quality in build it is an amazing copier. Although a copier, the options upgrades the machine office such as printing, copying and faxing over its network make it a multifunctional machine capable of many things.

Pros:

What most people want to know is the speed at which the machine can copy and print out at. It's capable of producing a very quick 35 pages per minute when using A4 size paper, and 19 pages per minute when using an A3 size paper. In fact, the machine can actually produce 120,000 pages every single month. This is more than enough, especially for the small to medium office size this is aimed for.

Getting the best value for money is very important in each print. Printing in black and white can be very expensive depending on what the toner, developer and drum yield is. The toner yield is 34,000 whilst the developer and the drum have an impressive 500,000 yield before they need to be replaced. This is an excellent return rate, and makes sure that you are saving as much money as possible as these can be quite expensive to replace.

With the ability to produce a high volume of pages per minute, and per month, the need for a high capacity sheet drawer is important. It comes with 2 x 500 sheet drawers as well as a 200 sheet stacked feeder. This is upgradeable to a mega 4,200 sheets. Also, there is an option to upgrade and include a 3,000 sheet finisher. This can punch holes through documents at the copy speed. Also available to upgrade is a job separator and a brochure finisher.

The image quality it produces is very good. At 600 dpi resolution it's what you expect from a copier of this quality. This is more than enough quality when producing documents and a company logo. Only if you require high definition for images should you look for a better resolution.

The network option this copier can have really makes it something special. Although optional, it is worth the upgrade as the network opens the door for many of the multifunctional features to be used. With a network, it is possible to use the copier as other functions such as a scanner and a printer. Many companies upgrade to have the network included, and then use the copier as their main printer. This is a good thing to do as to print on this machine is very cost efficient. It also saves space having a machine capable of more than one main office job. With the scanning option, you can have whatever you have scanned sent directly to your computer and ready to be used as an e-mail. You can even use the dual access feature to allow both printing and scanning at the same time.

Cons:

Since the copier doesn't initially come with the network option, this leaves the machine as a basic photocopier. It is almost essential that you choose to upgrade the machine to make full use of all the features. It does however cost extra money since this is an optional add on, and this should be taken into account when purchasing.

Another set back is the inability to print in color. This is obviously only a downfall if you really need a color option. If you are looking for color, you must also take into account the cost at which printing in color occurs.


For the small to medium business, the Royal Copystar RI-3530 is an option to consider. Producing at a slightly higher rate than its sister copier at 35 pages per minute, it really does boast a fast workflow. Add to this the ability to have a network function allowing scanning and printing, and you have a multifunctional system that would be useful in most offices.
