When do I Replace a Toner Cartridge in the HP Color LaserJet 3500n Printer?

The highly sophisticated control panel of your HP Color LaserJet 3500n Printer features a toner-cartridge level indicator. Please note that the toner levels of all installed cartridges will be displayed in the following order from left to right: Black, Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow. Alternatively, you can print a supplies status page to check the estimated remaining life of all installed consumables, the total number of completed print tasks, the manufacture date of each installed component, etc... In order to notify you about a detected toner cartridge abnormality or a status change, the laser printer will display one of the listed warning and error messages on the control panel LCD.

� ‘’Genuine HP supplies installed’’ – All of the newly installed toner cartridges are original/genuine products manufactured by HP. The laser printer will switch to a ‘’Ready’’ mode after 10 seconds. No actions required.

� ‘’GENUINE HP SUPPLIES DESIGNED FOR ’’ – The installed genuine toner cartridges cannot be used in your HP Color LaserJet 3500n Printer. You must replace all indicated toner cartridges to continue printing.

� ‘’INCORRECT CARTRIDGE’’ – You have installed one or more toner cartridges into incorrect (regarding color) slots. Please reinstall all toner cartridges by following the instructions given further below on this page.

� ‘’INCORRECT SUPPLIES’’ – Several toner cartridges are incorrectly installed or missing. You must make sure that all toner cartridges are firmly inserted into the corresponding slots.

� ‘’INSTALL CARTRIDGE’’ – Your HP Color LaserJet 3500n Printer cannot detect the indicated toner cartridge. Herein, you must make sure that the indicated consumable component is properly installed. A new toner cartridge of the corresponding color must be installed, if the error message is still displayed after the correct reinstallation.

� ‘’ORDER CARTRIDGE’’ – The indicated toner cartridge is nearly empty. Please note that a nearly empty toner cartridge can cause various print quality issues. � ‘’REMOVE ALL PRINT CARTRIDGES’’ – Your HP Color LaserJet 3500n Printer is executing a scheduled component test. You must remove all toner cartridges from the main unit, in order the test to be completed.

� ‘’REMOVE AT LEAST ONE PRINT CARTRIDGE’’ – The laser printer is executing a routine maintenance procedure. One or more toner cartridges must be removed from the main unit. Please reinstall the toner cartridges, once the maintenance procedure is completed.

� ‘’REPLACE CARTRIDGE’’ – The indicated toner cartridge is empty. All print/copy operations will be disabled until a new cartridge of the corresponding color is installed.

� ‘’10.92.YY SUPPLY MEMORY ERROR’’ – You should try to resolve the issue by opening and then closing the front door of the laser printer. A new toner cartridge set must be installed, if the issue persists.

� ‘’10.92.YY CARTRIDGES NOT ENGAGED’’ – Please open and close the front door of the laser printer, in order to reinitialize the installed toner cartridges.

How to Install a Toner Cartridge in the HP Color LaserJet 3500n Printer

To install a new toner cartridge in your HP Color LaserJet 3500n Printer, you must open the front door by lifting its handle and pulling it towards you. Then, you must take the empty toner cartridge out of the main unit by pulling it carefully towards you. After that, you must unpack the new toner cartridge, and then redistribute the toner by shaking the cartridge 8-10 times from side to side. Now, you must prepare the new toner cartridge for installation by removing the orange shipping locks and the orange protective tape. Finally, you must insert the new toner cartridge into the corresponding slot, and then close the front door of your HP Color LaserJet 3500n Printer.

When do I Replace a Fuser Maintenance Kit in the HP Color LaserJet 3500n Printer?

The fuser maintenance kit includes the following consumable components: a fuser assembly unit, and a pickup roller. The main function of the fuser assembly unit (in the printing process) is to fuse the toner onto the paper/media. Please note that your HP Color LaserJet 3500n Printer is equipped with a ‘’GUARD FUSER’’ system, which will stop the printing process when an incompatible media type is detected. You can obtain information about the installed fuser assembly unit (remaining life, installation date, printed pages, etc…) by printing a supplies status page. A new fuser maintenance kit must be installed, when:

� ‘’INSTALL FUSER’’ is displayed on the control panel LCD – You must make sure that the fuser assembly unit is correctly installed into laser printer. In case that the fuser assembly unit is correctly installed, you will have to install a new fuser maintenance kit.

� ‘’ORDER FUSER KIT’’ – Your HP Color LaserJet 3500n Printer has detected that the installed fuser maintenance kit is near the end of its useful life. You should purchase a new fuser maintenance kit, and install it soon after the initial appearance of the warning message on the control panel display.

� ‘’REPLACE FUSER KIT’’ – The installed fuser assembly unit and pickup roller have been exhausted. A new fuser maintenance kit must be installed immediately after the appearance of the warning message on the control panel display, in order to be avoided print quality issues and critical hardware errors.

� ‘’50.X FUSER ERROR’’ – You should try to resolve the issue by turning the laser printer off and then back on. The installed fuser maintenance kit must be replaced, if the issue persists. Please follow the instructions given below to install a new fuser maintenance kit in you HP Color LaserJet 3500n Printer.

How to Install a Fuser Maintenance Kit in the HP Color LaserJet 3500n Printer

The replacement procedure consists of three main steps:

1. Installation of the fuser assembly unit

2. Installation of the pickup roller

3. Fuser maintenance count reset

Each of these steps is utterly explained below. Please follow the execution order strictly.

1. Installation of the Fuser Assembly unit

Initially, you must turn the HP Color LaserJet 3500n Printer off, and then open the lower rear door. Please wait at least 10 minutes before proceeding with the next step. Next, you must open the tray extender, and then detach the lower rear door from the laser printer. After that, you must unlock the used fuser assembly unit by pulling its blue latches upwards. Then, you must remove the used fuser assembly unit from the laser printer by carefully pulling it out of the slot. Now, you must take the new fuser assembly unit out of the protective packaging, and then align the new component with the slot. Once the new fuser assembly unit is correctly aligned, you must slide it into the slot until it clicks into place, and then rotate the two green levers to the up/‘’locked’’ position. Finally, you must reattach and close the lower rear door.

2. Installation of the Pickup Roller

You must make sure that the laser printer is still turned off, and then remove Tray 2. After that, you must detach the right peg of the used pickup roller by pushing the blue side of the roller to the left. Then, you must remove the used pickup roller from the laser printer by pulling its left (still attached) side towards you. Next, you must unpack the new pickup roller, and then insert the left peg of the new component into the round hole in the tray 2 cavity. Now, you must push the new pickup roller towards the main unit until the right peg clicks into place, and then gently rotate the roller in a counterclockwise direction until it stops. Finally, you must insert Tray 2 into the laser printer.

3. Fuser Maintenance Count Reset

You must turn your HP Color LaserJet 3500n Printer on, and then press the [Menu] button. After that, you must navigate to [CONFIGURE DEVICE], and then select the [RESETS] menu. Finally, you must navigate to [RESETS SUPPLIES] – [NEW FUSER KIT], and then select [YES]. You can continue with you next print task.
