You will be notified by the built-in monitoring system, before the printing resource of the installed drum unit is completely consumed. The advanced notification will be realized by the displaying of the following warning message ''CHANGE DRUM SOON'' on the HL-6050`s LCD. Once you have noticed this warning message, you should promptly replace the exhausted drum unit. Otherwise, the print quality will be gradually decreasing, and eventually the following print quality problems will appear: background fogging, blurred images, blank copies, solid copies, white banding, or black banding. Please note that you should replace the installed drum unit, if any of the above print quality problems appears, even if there is no notification from the monitoring system.

Initially, you must push down the lock release lever, which is located on the top side of the printer, and then pull the front cover to opened position. Then, you must grab the drum assembly by its front side and pull it out of the printer in direction straight towards you. In the next step, you must separate the toner cartridge from the exhausted drum unit by holding the cartridge by its handle and pulling towards you while pressing down the blue lock lever, which is located below the right side of the toner cartridge. Once the toner cartridge is detached, you must carefully take the new drum unit out of the protective packaging. After that, you must push the toner cartridge with its contact area forward into the new drum unit , until you hear a click and the blue lock lever is elevated to its original position, and then clean the scanner window with a soft cloth. Now, you must insert the drum assembly into the printer, and then reset the drum counter. Finally, you can close the front cover of your Brother HL-6050 Laser Printer and continue with your printing tasks.
