When do I Replace a Toner Cartridge in the Brother HL-1040 Laser Printer?

The toner cartridge installed in your Brother HL-1040 Laser Printer must be replaced after approx. 2,400 prints. Please note that you can extend the lifespan of the installed toner cartridge up to 50% by activating the Economy-printing mode. One of the listed indications will appear when the installed toner cartridge reaches the end of its useful life.

The [Toner] and [Alarm] LEDs flash every 5 seconds – The amount of toner remaining in the installed toner cartridge will be completely consumed after approx. 100 prints. Please make sure that you have a replacement toner cartridge for your Brother HL-1040 Laser Printer in stock. It is recommended to install the new toner cartridge soon in order to be avoided print quality problems.

The [Toner] and [Alarm] LEDs blink (continuously) – The installed toner cartridge is empty. Please install a new toner cartridge to resume printing/copying.

How to Install a Toner Cartridge in the Brother HL-1040 Laser Printer

Initially, you must open the top cover of the laser printer by pulling it gently towards you, and then carefully pull the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly out of the main compartment. After that, you must turn the colored lever of the used toner cartridge counterclockwise until it stops to close the shutter, and then pull the exhausted component out of the drum unit. Now, you must unpack the new toner cartridge, and then shake it 7-8 times from side to side. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must remove the protective seal from the shutter of the new toner cartridge, and then insert the new component into the drum unit. Once the new toner cartridge is inserted, you must turn its colored lever in a clockwise direction until it stops, and then turn the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly upside down. Next, you must grasp the small blue tab, and then slide it several times to the right and left to clean the primary corona wire of the drum unit. Once you have cleaned the primary corona wire, you must return the blue tab back to its original position, and then insert the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly into the Brother HL-1040 Laser Printer. Finally, you must close the top cover, and then print 10 pages.
