The HP Color LaserJet 2550 is a printer that offers you speed, as well as the ability to print in both black and white and color. Pros:

One of the main advantages is that it has the ability to print out in color. This is very important, as you never know when you might need colored documents. If you want to print in color it can print out at 4 pages per minute. This is relatively low, but suits you well if you are using this function for personal use. If you are going to be printing in black and white though, it can reach speeds of around 20 pages per minute. This is quite impressive, especially for a budget printer.

It features something called instant on technology. This allows the machine to print as soon as possible, without the need to "warm up" first. This is a very good feature and lets you increase workflow and productivity. Most other printers don't have this option.

It can print out images in very good quality, even if printing in color. It can reach resolutions of 600 by 600 dpi. This will give you very good quality, and its what you would expect from a printer of this price. It can also handle around 30,000 pages every month. But to be fair, you probably won't come anywhere near that amount.

With HP's smart technology you are able to see how much you have left of each color cartridge. It will be displayed on your computer screen and you will be able to see which cartridge needs replacing next. This can save you a lot of hassle, as it allows you to order the ink before it actually runs out, meaning you have constant use of the printer. Also, the printer itself is built in a way to allow you to have easy access to the cartridges via the front lid. And when a cartridge does need replacing, it automatically will cycle to the top. This is a very handy feature and allows changing of the cartridges much easier.

Another impressive feature is the multi purpose tray this machine boasts. It comes as standard with a 125 sheet multipurpose tray that can handle various paper types. This is also upgradeable to a 250 sheet tray, or even a 500 sheet tray. This is very useful, especially if you find yourself refilling the tray more than you thought.

It is also very easy to install and use with both PC and Mac. It connects to your computer through a high speed USB 2.0 port.

Cons:

The printer is quite noisy, which can be a slight disadvantage. If you are working in an office this can be annoying. Although this isn't a disadvantage of the way the printer functions, it is still something that could have been improved by HP.

There are reports of the printer cartridges displaying false information. For example, when you are printing something off but not using certain colored ink, the printer gets confused and thinks that the ink has actually been used. This means that the printer will think that the cartridges are empty, when they actually still have some use still in them. This will mean you have to replace the ink regardless if they still have ink in them or not, and can cost you more money than what you think.


This printer is very cheap and looks good. It functions fairly well too, and at 20 pages per minute when printing in black and white, it is very fast. Not only this but you have the option of printing in color, which is an added bonus. The quality is also fairly good. The only downside is that the printer can get confused and causes you to spend more money on cartridges, when you don't need them.
