Such performance made FS-4000DN a BLI-recommended laser printer for mid-size workgroup. 

Pros:

Just like many Kyocera Mita printers, the photoconductor drum is a long lasting part and toner cartridge is made refillable that significantly reduce the maintenance cost. Network setup and driver installation is made easy thanks to the auto-install feature that handles printer port creation needing only 12 mouse click cooperation from the user. Network connectivity is of no hassle with the available USB 2.0, parallel and Ethernet interface connections. And the integrated KM-NET viewer provides a solution of device discovery and management for all printers and MFPs in the network.

Usability and looks are a worth noting features of FS-4000DN. Loading paper is easy and the same can be said for toner replacement. Styled in cream color covering the cuboid printer of slightly bending edges at the top, distinctiveness is heightened by the dark gray slate panels embedded, smart lines and highlights visible at the rightmost part at the top panel. These interesting highlights include a 2-line 32-character LCD display and an array of eight buttons including two big colored ones in green and orange used to initiate and terminate printing jobs.

Amazement for speedy printers should be lent to Kyocera Mita FS-4000DN with its impressive fast printer engine making it stand out among every other printer of its batch. Warm up time takes only less than 15 seconds even from sleep mode and the first print out time of less than 9 seconds. It can effectively handle printing needs quickly with its splendid fast per minute printing speed at 47 PPM (pages per minute) for letter size and 38 PPM for legal size which outputs a total of 250,000 pages in a month. The memory justifies the printing speed which is standard at 128 MB but can still be upgraded to 640 MB via 100 pin DDR DIMM slot and MicroDrive slot.

Since best fitted for heavy printing jobs at offices, paper sheet capacity is expandable for up to a maximum of 2,600 paper sheets out from its standard paper sheet capacity of 600 sheets made possible by the addition of 3 more paper feeders. The 600-sheet standard capacity is given by the 500 sheet paper drawer and a 100-sheet multipurpose tray excellent for handling various paper types and paper sizes.

A fine 1200 mode prints at 1200 x 1200 DPI with three additional resolution options depending on the needs: the fast 1200 mode (1800 x 600 DPI), 600 x 600 DPI and an interpolated 2400 x 600 DPI with KIR (Kyocera Image Refinement). Plus it can print directly file documents from a memory stick through a high speed USB port.

With all features presented, FS-4000DN runs at dimensions of 15.04”W x 15.51”D x 12.60”H and a weight of 37.04 lbs. which is manageable and mobility is still possible. And with a reported noise level of 56 dB (A), FS-4000DN is considerably a quiet type printer which is not that a nuisance.

Cons:

Although FS-4000DN provides above average text print output, graphic and photo print may be a little of disappointment as slight bandings are visible and shaded regions are seemingly lacking in sharpness. While this can be considerable, if you’re very specific in detail for photo and business graphic print, FS-4000DN may be not that excellent. Also as a 2006 released printer,operating system compatibility is also a hassle as by default, it is incompatible to newer operating systems namely Windows Vista and 7 since its compatibility are on operating systems prior to its release or in the case of Windows OS, its compatibility is only until Windows XP and so driver/s (if available, which may be found directly in the official manufacturer’s site) is/are needed to be downloaded and installed to be compatible with these newer operating systems.
