LEXMARK C540 IMAGE TRANSFER BELT ASSEMBLY

The image transfer unit transfers the toner image from the drum unit onto the media. Various print quality issues will occur when the image transfer unit reaches the end of its useful life. The most common print quality problems caused by image transfer belt related abnormalities are listed below. Please replace the installed image transfer belt if any of the listed print quality problems appears.

How to Install an Image Transfer Belt in the Lexmark C540 Color Laser Printer

In order to replace the image transfer belt, you must remove the following components:

1. Right cover
2. Waste toner container
3. Drum unit
4. Installed image transfer belt

The replacement procedure and all removal procedures are included below. Please follow the execution order strictly.

1. Right Cover Removal

You must open the toner supply door, and then open the front cover of your Lexmark C540 Color Laser Printer. After that, you must release the two latches of the right cover, and then remove the cover from the main unit.

2. Waste Toner Container Removal

You must unlock the waste toner container by pressing the two green tabs, and then remove it from the Lexmark C540 Color Laser Printer by pulling it carefully towards you.

3. Drum Unit Removal

Once the waste toner container is removed, you must remove all toner cartridges from the laser printer, and then unlock the drum unit by lifting the two latches. After that, you must pull the drum unit towards you until it stops, and then press and hold down the handles on the right and left side. Next, you must remove the drum unit by pulling it carefully towards you.

4. Image Transfer Belt Replacement

Initially, you must disconnect the two springs of the exhausted image transfer belt from the side printer frame, and then rotate the left spring and the cam upwards. After that, you must pull the exhausted image transfer belt slightly towards you while rotating the release lever in a counterclockwise direction. Now, you must remove the exhausted image transfer belt by pulling it firmly towards you while holding the release lever, and then unpack the replacement component. In the next step of the replacement procedure, you must write down the 16-digit numeric value from the barcode of the new image transfer belt, and then install the new component by following the current procedure in reverse order. Finally, you must reinstall all previously removed components, and then reset the ITB counter by executing the short procedure included below.

ITB Counter Reset

1. Turn the Lexmark C540 Color Laser Printer off
2. Turn the printer on while pressing and holding down the [Left Arrow] and [Select] keys.
3. Select [Printer Setup] – [ITU Barcode]
4. Enter the 16-digit numeric value from the barcode of the new image transfer belt, and then press [Select]
