Xerox WorkCentre 7335 Review

Overview:

The Xerox WorkCentre 7335 is the industry level, heavy duty version of the color multifunctional laser and LED print devices that are becoming popular as desktop units. This machine, however, has no place on a desktop as this mid sized color WorkCentre is not only beefy, but produces professional level results regardless of what function it is being utilized for. The WorkCentre is far from cheap, but is hard to beat when it comes down to high end color print performance.

Pros:

With 35 page per minute black and white print speed and 31 page per minute color print speed, the Xerox WorkCentre 7335 can certainly hang with the big boys in the area of color laser print speed. Don’t expect to get the device cheap though, as prices on used, refurbished, and new units in the line can range anywhere from four to five figures.

Not only is the Xerox WorkCentre 7335 equipped with a full gigabyte of RAM, but it includes a 40 GB hard disk that is useful for storing personal print and scan data that can be accessed directly from the machine, without ever needing to use a PC. This makes printing common forms such as job applications or frequently used flyers faster than usual due to the fact that the user can simply walk up to the device and use it as a stand alone printer.

Copy, scan, and fax functions are all present and are all exceptional as well. Wireless connectivity as well as duplexing are standard, as would be expected in a unit of this caliber (and price range), and along with its remarkably fast color print speeds, it offers a first copy out time of only 7.2 seconds in color and 4.8 seconds in monochrome.

With a 105,000 page maximum monthly duty cycle, users would have to try very hard to exceed the hardware’s volume limitations. Also on the large side is the Xerox WorkCentre 7335’s maximum paper size which extends all the way up to Ledger and Tabloid sizes.

Cons:

Ultimately, through no fault of the Xerox WorkCentre 7335’s own, there is a printer/document processor that just plain delivers more value per dollar, and that is the Xerox WorkCentre 7346. This device is virtually the same in every way, except its print speeds are much increased. The 7346 pumps out 45 pages per minute in black and white and 40 pages per minute in color, yet costs only marginally more than the 7335. This increase in overall speed is not to be disregarded, as it is print speed that can ultimately define the value of a high end, high volume document handling station. If the choice is available, go with the faster hardware.

Although the Xerox WorkCentre 7335 is capable of printing in the excellent resolution of 1200 x 1200 dots per inch, copy resolution takes a huge hit down to only 600 x 600 dots per inch. This is only one fourth of the resolution that the printer is actually capable of producing and is a huge disappointment.
